Flight to IcelandWhen planning your Icelandic holiday the obvious main thing is to get there, yes? Though you can go by ship, most likely you will choose to go by airplane. You have two options to choose from regarding Icelandic airlines. These airlines are Icelandair and IcelandExpress. IcelandairIcelandair is the most commonly used by travellers going to Iceland. It has flights to many airports all over Europe or 22 cities total. You can get both expensive and cheap flights with this airline. Icelandair offers direct flight to Iceland, both from Europe and from the United States of America. Icelandair offers most options for flying to Iceland, for example if you are going either from USA to Europe or vice versa you can opt to stop in Iceland for a number of days for sightseeing. See their website for details. When flying to London it uses London Heathrow. http://www.icelandair.comIceland ExpressThe other Icelandic Airline is Iceland Express. It is a low cost airline that is adding to it´s destination regularly. This airline only flies to Europe, not the USA. Iceland Express has seasonal flights direct to two other destinations in Iceland, Akureyri in North Iceland and Egilsstaðir on the East coast. But the main airport is Reykjavik (Keflavik) airport. When flying to London, it uses London Stansted. http://www.icelandexpress.com/The AirportThe Reykjavik International Airport which these major airlines use isn´t really “Reykjavik Airport”. It is called that in international flights abroad but it´s real name is the “Leifur Eiriksson Keflavik Airport” which is around 50km from the centre of Reykjavik. You can take a bus for approx. 15 euros or a taxi for approx. 80 euros. There are no trains in Iceland.Reykjavik Airport is a small airport in the city itself, which is mainly used for domestic flights. It is international though but the international flights from there are mainly to the Faroe Islands, Greenland and then the Private Jets that use it because of it´s down town position, only 5 minutes in taxi from the centre of Reykjavik |
